about marsha
“Many times I have a preconceived notion of what something will become, however most times I really don’t know where the work will lead me. Working with such a tactile, physical medium such as clay which has it’s own set of behaviors and boundaries requires one to connect to the medium in an intimate conversation ultimately collaborating with the clay to produce an artwork.”

Working primarily in ceramics I create figurative work out of narratives–real and imaginary. I find that working in series allows me to deepen a specific narrative making room for the inclusion of other concerns – cultural, ecological, and societal. It is my intention to get out of my own way and let the work evolve as naturally as possible. Mishaps and accidents occur; they are welcome and sometimes generative.

Interview with Marsha
2020 by videographer Kent Lacin
During the pandemic an installation titled ‘Into the Woods’ at the Epperson Gallery in Crocket closed it’s doors before it had a chance to be viewed by the public. The practice of setting it up was a wonderful experience. I was able to work with the talented musician/videographer Kent Lacin who produced this short video ‘about the artist’ and the process of an installation.
